Description
I work at the front desk of a low-budget hotel in an area with a lot of backpackers passing through the hills. Some time last year two teenagers on their journey had stayed with us a few days and exhausted their budget. Their names were Daniel and Tate. After checking out, they waited in the lobby for a man to pick them up who had promised them a job. They were very polite, refusing even to indulge in our free coffee without asking permission first. By the end of my shift six hours later the man had still not come. I pulled some strings and let the boys stay in a back storage room that night.
The next morning they had decided to head home to Utah. I loaned them the $2.50 to take the city bus to the Greyhound station and rode with them until their stop. One of them was really interested in astronomy. He said their favorite memory from their travels was the time they hopped a fence and cut through an empty field to cut down on their walking time- the stars were very clear out in the field. By the time they’d made it half way across, they realized they were not alone, and had to outrun a herd of sleepy cows in the dark.
Safe travels, boys.
